Welcome to the trench raider in Battlefield 1. Today we are going to take a closer look at this new elite class, I will show you how to get your hands on it as quickly as possible, I will give you some tips and tricks so that you can taken maximum advantage of this new elite class and we will bust some trench raider myths. On top of that I will give you some extra info about the new siege gun in Battlefield 1, aka the howitzer. The trench raider is a melee focused elite that excels at close range infantry combat.
Your primary weapon is a raider club. Basically an oversized melee weapon that will inspire fear into your enemy. It allows a fast and brutal playstyle because the raider club can instantly kill an enemy within striking distance and on top of that it has a short killing animation that will allow you to stay on the move. Your secondary weapon is the no 3 revolver. It can deal 50 damage up to a range of 10 meters. The trench raider also has access to a nice arsenal of grenades.
You will be able to use 3 frag grenades and you can also throw some smoke grenades to provide you with the necessary cover so that you can get up close and personal? The trench raider can’t absorb as much damage as most of the other elite classes, that is why you also have access to a medical crate. The good this about this elite is that you can equip a gas mask so that you can still clear out the trenches when they are covered with gas.
If you combine all of these items and weapons then you have one hell of an elite class. Just make sure that you adjust your playstyle accordingly because you will have to be able to get close to you next victim and you are still very vulnerable against a larger group of enemies. How do you become the trench raider? When the round starts on Verdun, everybody will run to the nearest flag, don’t do that. There are many reasons why you shouldn’t join the herd and the trench raider is another reason not to follow everybody else, instead of going to the nearest flag, make your way to the C flag, this is where you can pick up the elite class.
Try to get there as fast as possible and enter the tunnels underneath the C flag. You can capture the flag from here but that is not why we are here today, but it will certainly help out your team a lot. Exactly at 1 minute and 2 seconds, the elite class will spawn here, irrelevant of the fact whether you or the enemy team has captured the flag already or not. Make sure that you cover the entrance to the tunnels and when the time is right, pick up your fancy new elite class. This is the guaranteed way to becoming the trench raider, but there is another way as well. I know that a great player like yourself never loses no matter what, not even a bad team will stop you so this will probably never happen to you, so for everybody else when you are losing the round, and the time is right for that little boost that can turn the tide, in other words a behemoth, then you will have a second chance at becoming a trench raider.
This time there is no visual indication that a behemoth is about to spawn like it normally would. On this map you will get access to a BL siege gun, this little baby is actually the ordnance BL inch howitzer, it was a heavy siege howitzer that the British used in France during World War 1. From the beginning of the round this siege gun is covered and unfortunately it is unusable. When the time is right for that behemoth, the first thing that will happen is that you will now have the opportunity to use this siege gun, the cover will be gone and you will see the indication that you can now enter the BL siege gun.
As soon as you do that, you will see that you map expands and you will also see a red marker on your map so that you know where to aim. The most important flag on this map is the Charlie flag and you are able to fire at anything that moves around that flag. I only wish that you could do a little bit more damage with that thing because it almost takes a direct hit in order to kill someone.
In other words it’s slow and not that deadly as you would expect. Take a look at the bottom right corner, here you can see that you have a few different options. You have different fire modes that you can use. You can fire the standard shell, you can fire a shell that will cover your buddies with smoke and you have a shell that creates a deadly gas cloud. Be careful tho, this gas cloud will also damage your buddies and if you accidently shoot it too close to some friendlies then you might kill them as well. So when the time is right for that behemoth, the first thing that will happen is that you gain access to the siege gun.
Approximately a minute later, the pickup for the elite classes will spawn right in front of the siege gun. The one on the far left is the Villar perosa, the one next to that is the raider club, which is the trench raider, the next one is the MG 08/15 and the one on the far right is the wex, this is the one for the flame trooper. Just pick up the one that you like and that’s it.
Let’s bust some myths as well. If you accidently picked up the wrong one and you really want to play as the trench raider then you can still do that. Just walk over to that crate and pick it up. There is one problem when you do that, the elite class that you picked up first is now gone, it does not go back to the crate it spawned it. The game considers this class to be unavailable, and nobody on your team will be able to take it over from you.
So when you do that, your team will no longer have access to 4 elite classes at a time when your team really needs it, so choose wisely. The other problem is that most players on your team have absolutely no clue that there are elite classes available in your main base, so maybe give them a head up in the chat or something. If you really have to fire off one last shell with the siege gun then know that you can also do that as an elite class. There is nothing that will prevent you from doing that.
As a trench raider you would think that you are able to run faster than everybody else, but unfortunately that’s not true, you can run as fast as any normal person on the battlefield and a guy who is doing a bayonet charge will still be faster. Do you think that you can steal one of the elite classes from the enemy team? Let’s find out, their base isn’t that far away and the elites spawn relatively close to the edge of the map, and you can reach it in time, the problem is getting back, sure you can bayonet charge into their base but you won’t make it out of their base in time.
