I’ve traveled much of the Commonwealth in my day. Here’s some basic survival tips from one wanderer to another. Are you the kind of person who likes to pick up everything they see? Satisfy your pack-rat tendencies by enhancing all your armor with pockets. You’ll be able to carry at least 5 more pounds of equipment each time you do it. Removing armor and weapon mods is easy. Simply visit a crafting bench and replace the mod with something different. For example, to remove the mod on this armor piece simply convert it back to a standard item. This will strip the modification and store it in your personal inventory for future use. Is your automatic weapon firing wildly? Compensators and muzzle brakes are incredibly important. They help reduce recoil which will keep your firearm under control. If you’re one of those Wild West types who likes firing from the hip, guns with shorter barrels and better grips are your friend. Prefer a more long ranged approach? Snipers will be happy to know that most weapons can be modified into an effective long-range solution. Long barrels and scopes are what you’re after, so becoming a Gun Nut is essential.

The Laser Musket is arguably one of the most potent weapons in the Wasteland if utilized correctly. With one rank in science you can mod your musket with a “ Four Crank Capacitor” which will enable you to dispatch most enemies with a single shot. Due to its slow reload time I advise using this weapon for long-range encounters. If you like to let your fists do the talking then the “brawling” mod can be added to your arm pieces to help augment your ability. If you like to use V.A.T.S then you may favor weapons with higher “range”. Improving the “range” on your weapons will increase their overall accuracy in V.A.T.S.

For those wanting to sneak their way through the Commonwealth I insist that you become an Armorer so that you can mod your armor with “Shadow leather” and “Shadow metal”. This will make you much harder to detect. Sneaking in power armor is fruitless until you can install a stealth-boy upgrade in the chest piece. It is best left at home if you’re looking for the subtle approach. I have many more survival tips to share with you. But I’m afraid they’ll have to wait for another day….
