Hello guys it’s Remus here and welcome to the Sesaon 7 Ultimate Guide for Akali, my annual series since 2012, as you know I main her for a long time and she’s my favorite champion, I’ve played a ton of games with her, been in the top few hundred Akali players in the world many times and I’ve made it to platinum 3 seasons in a row, and I plan to get Diamond this season. She’s an assassin, works top and mid and received quite a lot of changes latelty, and might not feel she’s in her strongest form, but I think she’s still good if played well. First, Abilities. Her new passive twin disciplines, empowers her next 2 basic attacks. the first one heals her, and the second one deals increased on hit magic damage if used within 4 seconds of the first one. Both are empowered by AP and AD. It works on towers as well, and it’s a nice hit to use together with exploding her Q. Mark of the assassin is her Q, when used she throws a kama at the targeted unit, marking it for 6 seconds, when hitting the target with a basic attack the mark detonates for bonus damage and restores 40 energy.
Best thing to do on lane is throw a q, wait for it to come off colldown, explode it, throw another one and explode it as well, and you can also use it to last hit. Her W, twilight shroud, blinks her to a nearby location and creates a smoke cover for 8 seconds, the shrowd slows enemies and gives Akali bonus movement speed, as well as true invisibility, meaning nothing but turrets can see her while inside now, you can also use the W to jump over walls, or combine it with R to catch fleeing targets. Her E, Crescent Slash is an AOE physical daamage ability with a small cooldown, and if a unit is killed from it’s use, the cooldown is greadly reduces, so you can play URF vs a few minions if you want to.
And her Ultimate, shadow dance dashes to the selected unit dealing magic damage, and immediatly landing a basic attack, that’s why it’s best to combo it with throwing a Q on the target first if in range. you have 3 charges when you learn the spell, and they recharge over time or when getting kills and assists. You want to max your abilities in the following order: R Q E W and you should always use flash and ignite. For masteries, I’m usually going 12/18 with thunderlord, since it works well with her burst, especially when landing a Q explosion combined with hextech and her passive, but stormraider’s surge is also a pretty nice mastery for chasing. And for runes, I have 3 pages for her, I use the hybrid marks for magic pen and lethality, but now you can go with normal AP runes with magic pen only, armor, magic resist and AP quints, if you play vs AP you can switch armor for health and if you play vs AD you can switch magic resist for AP.
As for items I like to start with boots and potions for that extra mobility, but you can start with a tome or armor as well if you play vs AD. first, focus on getting the hextech revolver and upgrading it to the gunblade as soon as possible, and get the sorcerrer’s shoes, next I like to get rylai even if a bit nerfed, I like the extra health and the slow, but you can also get zhonyas or lich bane as the 2nd one, and finish with rabaddon’s. that’s my usual build, lich bane works great with her Q and passives, as well as taking towers and inhibitors down faster, and zhonyas is great for waiting for resets or a W to escape.
As for counters, no one can now see you in the new W but champions like Lee Sin, Swain and Rumble can still hit you while in there, and they can be really hard to play against. Lee Sin can’t see anything anyway. But she’s easy against squishy champions that you can keep jumping on and assassinating them pretty fast, like Karthus, Ezreal or Yasuo. Now let’s get into some gameplay, and first I want to show you one of my best moments that happened a few months ago, you can see it in my ultimate akali montage as well, a 1v5 with the help of the baron! =) First let’s talk about combos. so like I said, early in the game you should try and land 2 Qs one after another, and now you can get closer to the target with the W, so throw a Q, wait for it to come back, go next to the target with W, explode it with an auto attack, land another Q and explode it again if you can, this way you use both your passives and 2 Qs.
Later on if you are in range for a Q, throw it and charge the enemy with your ultimate, and keep repeating that, if you are in trouble go away with a W, wait for Q to come back and repeat, because remember that you still heal when you do dmg thanks to the gunblade and the first hit of the passive. You can also get away by jumping over walls with the W, or putting a ward in a jungle camp and jumping over the wall with your ultimate. Also, if you are low on health and no champions near, you can spam your E in a minion wave and heal quite well from it! On the lane, you should be carefull untill level 6, but if you can try and harrras the enemy with the double Q combo i’ve told you before, or wait for ganks and help your jungler.
If you play against a squishy champion you can take it down before level 6 with plenty of right landed Qs and dodging their abilities with your W, and stay longer in the lane by healing yourself from the passive, but if it’s someone that dominates you, stay back and wait for a gank or level 6, when you get your power spike. As for farming, on lane if you are in trouble you can last hit with Q or just use your passives since the first one will also heal you, and if there are many minions nearby, use your E since it will have a small cooldown if you can kill something with it as well and you will also heal nice if you have your gunblade ready.
Though, it was easier to farm with autoa attacks before, when she had her constant passive that increased all her basic attacks damage. Like I always say, roaming is very important for Akali. try to help your team, go top and bot and help them and yourself by killing a few enemy champions, it’s very easy to roam with Akali that’s why she can even be good played jungle, though it’s a bit hard to kill the monsters early on.
So if you see an opportunity go for it, it’s easy to catch enemies by dashing with your W and ultimate from minion to minion to champion, help your team and yourself whenever you can see a good oppening for a roam. And for late game and team fights, try not to go in first, wait for a few tanks, and always focus the squishy ones first, go and insta-kill the ADC and then the mid-laner, and try to remain alive by dealing damage to heal yourself, if you are in trouble just land a W and wait for an oppening or for an escape, since no one can see you in it now, but they can still hit you with AOE.
You can do many nice combos in late game, and remember to always use your hextech gunblade, it has a nice active. if you find a lonelty emeny champion, especially if it’s the ADC or mid-laner, jump on in while throwing a Q and using the gunblade at the same time, and you should be able to take it down fast with the help of the bonus dmg from the passive and the thunderlord proc.
If you want to escape you can jump from a minion to another and even further with the W, or jump over walls, and don’t forget to use your items as well! And if you are dying, attack, since you will probably heal enough to make it..
