In the middle stages of the Classical age, you have the oppertunity to create a new settlement! A new settlement acts as a new town for you to develop, and key things need to be remembered when choosing a location, and what you’re trying to achieve! This small guide will help you on creating your first settlement!

1. Choosing a location! 
You create settlements on open ground, or Grassland in the map. First make sure you have at least 1000 of each material, and enough gold to transfer materials over (explained later in the guide). When examining a grassland, there’re 6 different icons that appear. Each icon represent the number of resource spots your new settlement will have!
Water droplet – Number of fishing spots (Food)
Tree – Number of forests (Wood)
Mountain – Number of mountains (Iron)
Field – Number of farmlands (Food)
Hills – Number of hills (Stone)
Cactus – Number of deserts (Oil)
Beside each icon will be a number of bars. Each bar represents how many of these spots are availible, for example, 2 red bars next to the hill icon means that there’re two spaces to create a quary. The bars appear in two forms: bold means that you have access to it straight away; faded means you do not have access yet, but will do as you advance through the ages!
TIP: All cities have 8 open areas to develop buildinds such as Barracks or Watchtowers, so don’t worry about them.

2. Creating the settlement! 
Once you are happy with a grassland, simply click the Settle button, and you’ll start construction of your new settlement! Try find grasslands close to your main city! It decreases the time to create the settlement, as well as making it more convenient if you’re using it as a resource hoarder. Each settlement takes at least an hour to build, and you cannot build the settlement adjacent to another settlement or city. Once the city is complete, you will start off with at least 100 of each resource, depending the amount you initially invest. so think before randomly spending it.

3. Resources! 
It’s obvious you’re quite depleted after creating a new settlement, as you only start out with at least 100 resources, and have no way of regenerate them, since you only start out with a level 1 villege centre! Resources are not shared between settlements in your empire so the best call of action is to transfer some of your main materials from your main city to your new settlement! To do this you need a Trade Post of any level, click on Transfer Resources, and distribute the number of resources you wish to transfer to your new settlement!
THIS COSTS GOLD, so make sure you have plenty of it! Gold is shared between your settlements, unlike resources, so developing a larger empire means more gold!
The time it takes to get to your new settlement varies with the distance, hence why I recommended to keep it close! To switch between your main city and settlement, click on the small blue arrows next to your city’s stats, or simply click on the other city on the map screen.


4. Development! 

Once you have transfered enough resources, start by developing all your availible resource tiles! Once they are complete to their maximum level, increase your centre, and develop from there! Once your centre has reached level 2/3, start to develop the settlement to how it suits you, whether it be for amassing armies, or hoarding precious resources!

Tips!

1. More settlements increase your maximum gold, as well as generation!
2. Invest more than 1000 of each resources when creating, and you start off with more resources.
3. Water tiles give more food yield than farmland, but cost a lot more!
4. You can have a new settlement every time you research a Government technology!
5. With more settlements, try assign different cities with different jobs, for example, a luxury settlement, gold farm, or resource hoarder.
