Are you dissatisfied with all the other Frostvault hard mode guides out there? Do you have no idea wtf you’re doing during skeevaton phase? Look no further.

Below, I’m posting a complete written description of how to handle skeevaton phase as a group AND as an individual. In other words, I have a full description of all the abilities of the guardian skeevaton, the repair skeevaton, and the assault skeevaton, and I teach you when it is best to use those abilities.

After scouring the internet for hours, I believe you won’t find anything as complete as what I’ve put together for this frustrating phase. Not only that, but I have a full video guide to the entire hard mode, not just the skeevaton phase, posted as well (shown from my perspective as a tank).

Entering Skeevaton Phase:

There are 4 different green pads for your team to synergize to enter the skeevaton phase. The two nearest the entrance are the guardian skeevaton (left side) and the repair skeevaton (right side). The two furthest from the entrance are both assault skeevatons.

When preparing to do this hard mode, make sure everyone is assigned a role and knows which pad to synergize. Each role will do something specific that is required to get you through this mechanic.

Notes on the Guardian Skeevaton

  • Main Roles: Provide a group damage shield, buff speed, and blow up shock conveyors

  • Side Roles: Resurrect allies and help kill dwarven spiders

  • Ability 1: Absorb Energy- Used to charge up your ultimate

  • Ability 2: Reconstruction- Used to resurrect scrapped skeevaton allies

  • Ability 3: Propulsion Booster- Used to give a speed boost to yourself and ally skeevatons to quickly get by trap areas

  • Ability 4: Hazard Barrier- Used to provide a damage shield to your group

  • Ability 5: Lightning Chassis- Used to deal a small amount of damage to dwarven spider enemies

  • Ultimate: Discharge Energy- Used to blow up shock conveyors

Notes on the Repair Skeevaton

  • Main Roles: Provide group healing, buff speed, and blow up shock conveyors

  • Side Role: Resurrect allies

  • Ability 1: Absorb Energy- Used to charge up your ultimate

  • Ability 2: Reconstruction- Used to resurrect scrapped skeevaton allies

  • Ability 3: Propulsion Booster- Used to give a speed boost to yourself and ally skeevatons to quickly get by trap areas

  • Ability 4: Repair Skeevatons- Used to provide a large group heal

  • Ability 5: Spot Repairs- Used to heal a single ally a small amount

  • Ultimate: Discharge Energy- Used to blow up shock conveyors

Notes on the Assault Skeevaton

  • Main Role: Kill enemy dwarven spiders

  • Side Role: Resurrect allies

  • Ability 1: Absorb Energy- Used to charge up your ultimate

  • Ability 2: Reconstruction- Used to resurrect scrapped skeevaton allies

  • Ability 3: Frost Mine- Used to freeze enemies and cause them to take massive damage

  • Ability 4: Volatile Spheres- Used to deal large amounts of damage to spiders. Will instantly kill spiders frozen by frost mine

  • Ability 5: Lightning Chassis- Used to deal a small amount of damage to dwarven spider enemies

  • Ultimate: Shock Field- Used to snare enemies and increase their damage taken

  • Side Note: THIS SKEEVATON’S ULTIMATE DOES NOT BLOW UP SHOCK CONVEYORS. ONLY THE GUARDIAN AND REPAIR SKEEVATONS DO THIS.

Skeevaton Phase Team Strategy

  1. All four skeevatons charge up their ultimates.

  2. Everyone should follow crown North.

  3. Always wait for fire to start and finish in the long hallways (and the twisty hallway in the very northwest corner, if you have to go that way). Once the fire finishes, the guardian or repair skeevaton should hit the speed boost and everyone should fly by the dangerous area.

  4. Always go around the spinning blades

  5. Guardian or repair skeevaton blows up the shock conveyor at the end of the lightning path.

  6. Return to center and RECHARGE ultimates. Next, everyone should turn right and follow crown West. One west pathway is extra dangerous as a spinning blade is placed before the shock conveyor. All rules about fire hallways and spinning blades continue to apply. The guardian or repair skeevaton should blow up the shock conveyor at the end of the path.

  7. After returning to the center and RECHARGING ultimates, the guardian skeevaton and 1 assaut skeevaton should head East. The repair skeevaton and the other assault skeevaton should head South. You must split up this way because assault skeevatons cannot blow up the shock conveyors. After the final two shock conveyors are destroyed, the skeevaton phase will end.

Role Specific Tips

Guardian Skeevaton: Whenever your group is waiting for some reason (usually before a fire hallway or when recharging ultimates), hit your damage shield (ability 4).

Repair Skeevaton: Save your big group heal (ability 4) for when multiple teammates have less than 50% health. Otherwise, just spam your weak heal the entire time when traveling. Another good time to hit your group heal is when everyone is charging up ultimates at the center.

Assault Skeevaton: Always stay slightly behind the guardian and repair skeevatons, as enemies usually come up from behind. Always hit enemies with a frost mine first (ability 3). Then obliterate them with a volatile sphere (ability 4). A great time to drop your ultimate is when the two teams are separated and multiple spiders are following you. The snare will give the guardian or repair skeevaton plenty of time to get some distance away to get to the shock conveyors unhindered.

With that, I hope you have a chance to check out the video as well. It’s really nice seeing all of this in action.
