📊 Best Ammo in Escape From Tarkov

In front of you right now are what I think are the best ammo types for the most popular guns in Escape From Tarkov. These ammo types are guaranteed to chew through class four body armor like a hot knife through butter. Don’t understand what that means? Give me two minutes I’ll explain why this is important and why you should choose your own ammunition based on how much money you can afford to spend versus what you’re trying to accomplish. I’m CarvemUp and this is 2 Minute Tarkov Tutorials. It is imperative you choose the right ammo for your weapon. If you don’t and you come up against armored targets you may find yourself at a serious disadvantage. I have survived so many fights in Escape From Tarkov because I find after I killed my enemy they were using sub optimal ammunition. This is a problem that can be easily avoided.

If you want to work out what ammo you should be using an Escape From Tarkov, the standard method as of .12 patch is to use this spreadsheet. I’ve left a link to it in the video description and it’s always kept up to date by a fantastic member of the Tarkov community known as NoFoodAfterMidnight. This spreadsheet shows the exact values of each ammo type in Escape From Tarkov, most notably the damage value and the penetration value. You want to choose an ammo type with the highest pen and damage value combination you can afford.

An example of this would be the 5.45x39mm calibre of ammunition. This ammo is used by a variety of budget AK builds such as the aks-74u it’s a great little starter weapon. If you take a look at the variations, the two types that stand out with over 40 pen are BS and 7n39 or ‘igolnik’ as they’re called. In Escape From Tarkov armors are divided up into classes, all the way up to class six armor. The majority of the playerbase will be used in class five armor or below, so if you ensure you’re using ammo with at least 40 pen or more, you will chew through these armors without any difficulties.

As such I recommend using BS rounds over ‘igolnik’ because with ‘igolnik’ you are sacrificing some of the potential damage in favor of higher unnecessary pen for the majority of the playerbase. If you don’t understand the armor system in Escape From Tarkov, be sure to subscribe and watch my upcoming video on this topic. If you are confused as to which ammo types your gun supports, right-click on your gun and select a linked search. Select ammo in the left tab and you can click on each individual ammo type that’s supported by your firearm and the current flea market price. Always buy the best ammo you can afford as this will greatly increase your chances of survival. Remember guns do not affect penetration and damage values, only the type of ammo you fire will affect these values. This means there’s no point in using a fancy modded gun if you can’t kill targets quickly and efficiently with the rounds you’re using.

One additional point, this video is meant for absolute beginners in Escape From Tarkov, and as such the information presented may not cover every facet of every mo type. This information will get you 90% of the way there however. There are plenty of other videos out there showing more in-depth guides and if you would like to learn more, I would recommend watching other more long-form videos. That’s all for now, thanks for watching this short informative video. I’m hoping this video series removes some of the complexity in greatly improving your battle performance in Escape From Tarkov.
