Age Of Water Upcoming Sea-Based MMORPG ► Introduction Guide (Game Mechanics, Combat, Monetization)

Hello everybody and welcome back to a brand new day. Got a little random title to introduce to you today, but it’s actually another MMO on the horizon that might be starting it’s alpha test soon. Developed by the studio named Gajin, also the people behind titles like War Thunder, Crossout, and Star Conflict. Which already that’s my warning to you that you should probably exercise some caution when jumping into this game, haven’t played a whole lot of War Thunder but I did play a lot of Star Conflict during it’s launch, and from what I’ve heard, games from this studio seem to have a great deal of microtransactions inside them.

Hopefully that’s not the case for this upcoming one outside maybe cosmetics and very minor convenience, if there is any. But let’s go ahead and jump into describing it… Game goes by the name Age of Water. In simple terms, this is Waterworld in MMO form. A good comparison I’ve seen in comments on this game, is a mixture between Sea of Thieves, Crossout, and Raft. Gajin is partnering with Three Whales Studio to develop and release this game. Now for the backstory – Age of Water tells a story of a distant future when the earth has been transformed into an ocean world. Residents live in cities built upon whatever urban structures remain above the water’s surface, including skyscraper rooftops and giant statues. We can see a little bit of this during the trailer, and the backstory says we’ll be taking control of a motorboat and travel between settlements, fight pirates or merchant ships, excavate the remnants of a lost civilization from the depths of the ocean, and transport valuable goods while discovering whether the mythical land still exists.

Now right now besides that, we don’t have a lot to go off of for how the game really works. In the brief segments of gameplay during the trailer, the HUD is off so we can’t really see how it functions, but it definitely appears to be shooter based. Now I have many questions on the mechanics behind this, and I’ve already sent an e-mail to their studio to hopefully dig up more.

It’s not explained if we’ll be able to control the turrets ourselves, or if we absolutely need people on our ships with us. Which for starters is something I’m super curious about, do we get NPC crewmates that can man these stations too, does the game have a party finder system, not quite sure yet. During this video we can get a glimpse of the customization we’ll have with these ships though, and as you can see you’ll be able to kit them out in multiple different ways. Some seem to be built more towards speed and manuverability while others appear to be more of the heavy combat type. This structure here seems to be a complete mystery but if I had to guess, I would say judging by the matching banners, this might be a clan settlement or home base that we might be able to make use of. This being a sea based MMO, I could see them having some type of system that revolves around that. From what we’ve read so far, we already know there’s trading in the game.

Between the settlements and probably between players, it also says on their website we can gather food and unique resources, so that means it’s probably more on the sandbox side as opposed to traditional MMO. Unfortunately it doesn’t answer the question of if we need to build our own ships from scratch and how much content we’ll have on the “land” based side of things for settlements. But I’m guessing once we obtain our ship and embark on the open water, that’s when the true experience of the game becomes available. It also says on their site that we can design warships and fight for territory or scarce resources, so again it does sound like they have systems in place revolving around clans. And also that open world PVP might actually be a thing.

That’s pretty much all the detail we have to go off of right now, but I will be keeping my eye on this one to learn more, and also I’ve already signed up for the alpha test which apparently is starting “soon”. Make sure to sign up on their website for the alpha if you’re interested, I’ll leave a link in the description below. Also let me know what you think about this upcoming game, I think with games like Sea of Thieves, it might be hard for new titles to compete with that, but who knows, maybe this one will have different aspects to it that make it just as enjoyable. Thanks so much for watching, have a wonderful night or day, and farewell..
