Best Team For Series (Let me know what you want to see next!)
In this series, I will help you build the best team comp surrounding your favorite character, with just the units you own. That’s right, I’ll be going through every character in the game.. so regardless if you want to build around powerhouse damage dealers like Diluc and Keqing, or if you want to build around less popular DPS units, this is the series for you. After each video, you’ll be able to immediately build the team comp that will allow your favorite character to shine, and understand more in-depth the logic and reasoning behind how teams are built.
The first thing we want to note is Razor’s skills and abilities. Razor is an electro type that excels in buffing himself up to do massive damage. The unique stat that he gets from ascension is physical ATK bonus, which means his basic attack is the main source of his damage. His burst is a major steroid that gives him extra electro DMG and attack speed, as well as making him more resilient to cc and electro based attacks and reactions. Our goal is to find a team that can set him up for success and amplify his damage as much as possible.
I won’t go too much into Razor’s build, but normally you look for Gladiator set and stats like atk %, Crit DMG, Crit Rate, Phys atk %.
Reactions & Resonance: (1:42)
So, before we even begin picking certain characters to fill into our composition, we need to look at what elemental reactions we want to consistently trigger. I’ve put up a graphic which shows every elemental reaction in the game, and you should spend some time to figure out what each elemental reaction does.
Electro has access to 3 different transforming reactions. All 3 are pretty viable with Razor, but I think the two most important ones are superconduct and electrocharge.
Superconduct reduces enemies’ physical resistance, which pairs well with the white damage centric profile that Razor has.
Electrocharge helps to deal AoE damage, which is a big weakness for Razor DPS.
Compared to those 2, I actually don’t value overload as high mainly because Razor already has high single target DMG. Because Razor lacks AOE, swirl doesn’t do that much for him.
So if we’re looking at elemental reactions in a vacuum, the priority is:
In addition to elemental reactions, we need to take a quick look at elemental resonance, which is having redundant elements in a single party.
For Razor, there’s one resonance that I think is super important on him. High Voltage allows you to get the maximum value out of Razor’s sigils that he gets from his E. Because his burst has such a long uptime and a short CD, you can build up 80 energy really quickly by utilizing this resonance. His burst is so valuable and such a big part of his DMG that it would be silly not to take this.
Shattering Ice could be good, but is very situational, and has its downsides. Taking 2 cryo units reduces your ability to deal with mobs by a large amount. This also applies to Fervent flames, the downside of taking 2 extra pyro users just for the ATK bonus can sometimes hurt your party’s versatility more than it can help.
Team Comps: (3:46)
Like my Diluc video, I’ve gone ahead and labeled comps abyss ready if I think that comp is something you can plug and play in abyss. Again, because the abyss has different enemies and buffs for each floor, I cannot advise you that these comps will work for all 12 floors. That’s why I also have listed an abyss core for each comp that you can build your teams around based on the circumstances.
Team 1: Razor, Fischl, Qiqi, Sucrose (Abyss Ready)
This is my BiS. This comp has all the tools needed to make Razor shine to his full potential. Qiqi provides consistent superconduct reactions and also provides great healing. Fischl not only gives you massive amounts of energy regen, she also provides extra damage and the ability to proc reactions when Razor’s E is on CD. Sucrose is here to provide some much needed AoE and helps to mitigate some of the difficulty that Razor has at clearing mobs. I like her the best since Razor can reach enemies during Sucrose’s burst.
Combo: Sucrose Q, Fischl Q, Qiqi Q, Razor E (hold), Sucrose E, Qiqi E, Razor Q -> AA
Team 2: Razor, Fischl/Lisa, Kaeya, Jean (Abyss Ready)
This is a slight downgrade from Team 1 since I think Qiqi/Sucrose pair is better than Kaeya/Jean pair. However, you’re pretty much going to get the same effect with an almost identical play pattern. Jean still works great with Razor because as a claymore user you’re going to get a lot of value from the heal by staying in her burst. Kaeya’s burst works great with Razor’s burst and can get net you a total of 16-18s of superconduct debuff from one use.
Combo: Jean E, Fischl Q, Jean Q, Kaeya Q, Razor E (hold), Razor Q -> AA, Kaeya E, Razor E
Abyss core: Razor, Kaeya, Healer, Flex (anemo)
Team 3: Razor, Mona, Qiqi, Venti (Sucrose, Jean) (abyss ready)
This team drops electro resonance for more versatility. It’s excellent versus mobs, but definitely allows Razor to shine less. Without the extra energy recharge, you won’t always have your burst up 24/7 and will have to use it more carefully. The play pattern for this comp revolves around grouping with Venti then doing massive electro charge damage with Mona. You have Qiqi and Razor on standby after the vortex to clean up the remaining enemies. Xingqiu is not a good alternative to Monaat all, because he can’t provide the damage and AoE that she can.
Before you commit to this comp, you have to acknowledge the fact that we’re sacrificing a lot of Razor’s ability to carry solo for more versatility. Be prepared to do less DMG with him overall, and rely on both Razor and Mona to split time doing DMG.
Combo: Razor E, Venti Q, Mona Q, Venti E, Mona E, Qiqi E, Razor R
Abyss core: Razor, Mona, Qiqi, Flex (anemo)
Team 4: Razor, Fischl/Lisa, Xiangling, Bennet (Abyss Ready)
This comp shines the most early and mid game but falls off late. It can’t deal with mobs as well as comp 3 and doesn’t amplify Razor’s DMG as much as 1 and 2. Still, both Xiangling and Bennet can provide Razor with atk % buffs in addition to the pyro resonance buff. You should still have no trouble winning fights, they might take longer on average compared to the other comps though.
No real combo pattern, abuse Bennet and Xiangling’s low CDs along with Fischl’s ability to proc reactions. Drop turrets, grab the pepper, stand in Bennet’s burst, and allow your Razor to go ham.
Abyss core: Razor, Xiangling, Bennet, Flex
Team 5 (f2p): Razor, Lisa, Kaeya, Barbara (Thrilling Tales) (abyss ready)
This is honestly a pretty damn good comp. Razor will do good damage with the reactions in this group. Use Lisa burst with Barbara to proc electro charge to help deal with mobs, and use Kaeya as a cryo bot to help proc superconduct. As a f2p, this will do whatever job you need it to do and can take you far in the abyss.
Characters Not Mentioned: (9:16)
I’ve listed all the characters I didn’t mention with their reasoning. If you want to find out why I didn’t include a certain character in a team comp, make sure to pause the video and give it a read. I know a lot of you may be wondering why Xingqiu didn’t make it, so please read what I have to say first before asking me about it further!
Amber: Xiangling is a better f2p pyro unit, there’s no room for her
Beidou: Her ult is irrelevant since Razor’s ult pretty much does the same thing, but better
Chongyun: Ice field turns Razor’s attacks into cryo, which is bad considering how much phys atk % bonus you’re losing. Also wasting superconduct.
Diluc: Better as DPS, watch my Diluc video if you want to play Diluc!
Keqing: Better as DPS, watch my Keqing video if you want to play Keqing!
Ningguang/Noelle/Traveler (geo): Picking up geo for extra elemental dmg isn’t relevant since Razor focuses on white damage
Klee: Better as DPS, watch my Klee video if you want to play Klee!
Xingqiu: His kit is lackluster because proccing electrocharge with his burst doesn’t do great DMG pairing up with Razor’s burst. If you want to proc electro charge, Mona is better since she can do it in an AoE. Not to mention his long CDs. The increased resistance from his swords also isn’t relevant since Razor can provide resistance on his own.
