Disclaimer: The best solution for Mac gaming is still installing Bootcamp to install Windows natively if 1)your Mac is not running a M1 chip and 2)your Mac has a dedicated graphics card. This post only provides us a solution to game on Mac with reasonable frame rate and latency.
Let’s have preview at the final product and I will talk about the steps to achieve this.
The setup looks like this
1)Connect your iPhone/iPad to an iOS controller (Dualshock, Xbox bluetooth etc.)
2)Connect your iPhone/iPad to your Mac via USB connection.
3)Open Quicktime player on your Mac.
4)Create “New Movie Recording”
New Movie Recording
5)Select the camera source as your iPhone, audio source as your iPhone.
You can also choose Maximum but I don’t notice a difference
6)Done! You can also optimise your Graphics Setting in Game.
My iPhone is an iPhone 11 and the in game graphics setting is as fellow.
My recommendation is to aim for High Render Resolution and 60 FPS since those were the two most important parameters that will affect your gaming experience.
I didn’t notice any drop in frame rate during my gaming session and there is no drop in iPhone battery percentage for 30 minutes. I recommend to directly connect your iPhone to your Mac with a USB cable instead of connecting your iPhone to a USB hub since it might affect the power delivery.
The following three pictures show the delay between the screen of your phone and computer. I haven’t done any frame count yet but I assume it is a delay of 2-4 frames.
We can see there is noticeable latency but this is only noticeable if you are using a Bow Type character. For other teams such as Keqing and Childe team that I use, I barely notice any difference. For Klee animation cancels, I was not very used to it with this setup but I think with practice I will eventually get the hang of it. For doing Daily Commission and Daily Artefacts Farming etc., the experience feels much better comparing with gaming on your iPhone with that small screen real estate.
Hope this can help other Apple users and have fun in Teyvat!
