Hi all summoners!
I recently hit Diamond 1 by playing almost exclusively Warwick with about a 68% winrate, and some people asked me to post up a quick guide, so here it is!
The why – Do you want to be most dmg tanked, most healing done, and top damage? That’s why I play WW. He can soak a ton of dmg, he can 100-0 a squishy by himself, and he has ridiculous sustain. Also he eventually beats pretty much anyone 1v1, you just need to get there, so check it out!
So real fast some philosophy; I was gold earlier this season and there was one revelation that got me all the way to D1. I can’t affect what other people will do, I can only change what I will do. Therefore any time spent trying to tell people what to do is essentially wasted, and I should focus all my energy/attention on trying to improve my play/value proposition. This applies to pretty much every part of life, not just league.
Now on to it!
Lane – Top
Masteries – 21/9/0 See link above active
Runes – MS quints, Hybrid pen marks, Ar/lvl seals, 6 cdr/lvl glyph and 3 mr/lvl glyph
Skills – R>Q>E>W
- Core build – Dorans ring/2 pots/sentry
- sunfire cape/wits end (depending on mr or ar, then the other one)
- Frozen heart
- Spirit Visage
- Choice (Frozen Mallet, GA, Randiuns, Botrk, warmogs)
Early Game – Always go for a buff steal level one. If you get caught run away, but you get it like 50% of games. You need to only fight the big creep and make sure you actively kite. Wait for a hit before you Q it the first time. Switch to flat armor seals if you can’t do this (but you should learn how to do this). Leave the little minions and recall, then immediately get *3/3 red/blue pots and tp back when you’re about 70% hp. You’ll fill up the rest on the way and every second counts! This gives you buff and a slight xp advantage depending on how the lane pushes.
In lane you are mostly going to farm until you hit 6. Try not to get ganked, they will be coming for you because you’re Warwick. If you’re losing lane take the jungle camp and wait for it to push. You are playing this for end game so keep your pants on. When you’re 6 keep farming and ping for a gank. If the jungler is bot lane look for an opportunity to request a deep ward and then gank bottom lane. They should be around lvl 4/5, and if the gank is successful you can also secure dragon.
If you’re playing a hard lane (anything with ranged poke, renekton, riven) you’re gonna get poked. Try to get cs, and in this case use your q to secure farm and stay in lane.
*Blue pots are your friend. Lots of times people will play aggressive when they see you at 150 mana, but you can pop a blue pot and have and ult/q combo ready in about 5 seconds.
Mid Game – You should have hit your first power spike now. If you have sunfire against an ad you should be able to stand and fight. This is normally when a Renekton/Riven lane turns, unless you have fed before then. If you have wits end, your q will chunk them for huge amounts of dmg. As soon as you get wits you can beat almost any AP. Try to catch them and land a couple of autos, q them once, then either chase or pretend to run away for 3s, when your q has 1/2 the cd left, ult and then q for a kill. This combo destroys every ap.
Keep farming, it should be a lot easier with sunfire/wits. If you’re winning lane dirty farm, and watch your map for tp ganks! Easy to scoop up a kill if anyone dips under 50% near a ward. Tank objectives for your team.
Late game – You are becoming the consummate tank. If you have frozen heart you can probably duo baron with the jungler (risky). Otherwise play safe and watch for picks. In team fights positioning is everything. If their squishies get out of position (mid/adc) just pop ult on them and hopefully your team follows up, even if they don’t they will need to pop cool downs to save the squishy. If their front line engages, pop w and shred their tanks as much as you can. When the back line closes and cc has been popped drop your ult on their squishies and go to town.
Jungle WW is mostly the same, just get FF/Wits for the most ridiculous ult damage you’ve ever seen. It’s really lol, like pretty much instagibs squishies
