Minecraft progression guide for absolute noobs (Java). With video guides By: Btfahle


Steps with the * symbol are not required for completion but will help greatly

Note that the resource gathering guides may not be the most efficient way.

(Try to complete steps 1 – 6 before night)

1.	Create new world - survival

2.	Collect wood - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Wood

3.	Collect enough wood for a crafting table and a wooden pickaxe - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Crafting_Table - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tool

4.	Collect enough stone for a stone pickaxe and a sword.

5.	*Kill any animals around you that drop meat (don’t worry they will respawn) Also collect any source of food you can - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Food

6.	*Build some sort of shelter or protection from the horrors of the night. (I recommend digging a big room in the side of a hill or mountain)

7.	Place down your crafting table make a furnace and place down your furnace. (Make as many furnaces as required. 2 is recommended) - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Furnace

8.	*Create a mine in your house that staircases down so that you can go up and down. Dig down this stair case until you reach level 11 or gather enough iron and coal. If you find a cave along the way down don’t hesitate to explore but make sure you can find your way back and prepare for the mobs that will attack down there. - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Ore - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Mob

9.	*If extra iron is acquired use it to craft some shears. You will want to find some sheep to either kill or sheer for wool as if you don’t sleep for more than 3 days phantoms will start attacking.

11.	*While exploring be sure to collect seeds from grass and if you come across any food be sure to make sure it is not regrowable before eating it as regrowable food can but multiplied quickly by farming - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Farming

12.	*If you come across a village trap the villagers inside their homes by placing blocks in front of the doors. Also note the coordinates of the village (This will come in use later) - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Villager - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Villager

13.	*Make some chest to place in your house for extra storage - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Chest

14.	Finish your mine by getting to the level 11 and if you have the iron keep making iron pickaxes for fasting mining - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Debug_screen

15.	 *Make stairs to go up and down your mine a lot quicker - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Stairs

16.	*If you have not already, start a farm. 

17.	 Build a hoe and plant seeds roots vegetables ect. Near by water will speed up growth. Slowly expand this farm over time - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Farming

18.	*If you acquire some sugar cane make a sugar cane farm - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Sugar_Cane

19.	*A Full set of iron tools are not required but if you have enough iron make it into some tools to speed up other processes like wood chopping and dirt digging - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Iron

21.	Collect any resources you find when down there and don’t be afraid to explore caves as long as you refer to step 8 - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Generated_structures

22.	Keep mining and crafting until you get 3 diamonds for a diamond pickaxe. 

23.	Find some obsidian to collect from caves or make it yourself by letting water flow over lava. Do not mine obsidian with any tool less powerful than a diamond pickax - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Obsidian

24.	Collect 14 pieces of obsidian

25.	Craft an enchantment table and make a big room for it - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Enchanting_Table

26.	Make a nether portal - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Nether_portal

28.	*Get enough iron for full set of iron armor

29.	*For easy resources and food, create a passive mob farm. This can include chickens, cows, sheep, pigs, ect. - https://youtu.be/X3-loYGePzY

30.	*Build an afk fish farm (optional but extremely useful)

33.	Repair tools that need repairing with the anvil. (Note the anvil only has a certain number of uses before breaking.)

34.	Go into the nether. Make sure you are prepared before entering the nether - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/The_Nether

35.	While in the nether be cautious of lava, aggressive mobs, and gravity. The ore you want to collect is quartz.

37.	*Find a dungeon and immediately place torches on the spawner to prevent mobs from spawning - https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Dungeon

39.	Keep mining and enchanting your best items until you have acquired a full set of diamond armor and tools. (Only sword and pickaxe are required)

46.	Defeat the ender dragon.

Congratulations you have officially completed Minecraft! But what now?
