Raid Shadow Legends Guide on endgame campaign farming: Nightmare vs. Brutal By: HopefulObject

I kept hearing contradictory advice regarding whether or not farming Nightmare campaign is worth it, so I wanted to check for myself. First, a few caveats:

  • I am exploring this purely from the point of view of energy savings. Not silver, time, dungeon divers points, or anything else.

  • I checked leveling 1*s to 10, 2* to 20, and 3* to 30. I haven’t checked the 4* to 40, but I see no reason why the pattern described below would not hold.

  • I am looking from a point of view of someone who is farming with XP boost but without raid card. The breakpoints do change in favor of NM campaign more with raid card.

  • I am comparing 12-3 brutal to 12-3 nightmare. The numbers will differ slightly for 12-6. I chose 12-3 because (1) it’s most commonly farmed brutal stage, and (2) it’s mostly spirit affinity on NM, which works well for my farmer.

First of all, here is the exp difference achieved per run by every champion (assuming 1 farmer + 3 food):

Brutal Nightmare
EXP per champ per run 8652 19208 (2.22x)

Now, most importantly, here is the energy breakdown between the two difficulties:

As you can see, you use more energy to level 1*s in Nightmare compared to Brutal, but you save 16 and 24 energy respectively on 2*s and 3*s. This seems small, but of course we crank out hundreds of these a month, which translates to decent savings. For example, to make 3 4* chickens, one needs 3 3* 30s and 12 2* 20s (I am assuming you are getting 2*s from the market or green shards, so they are free). This translates to 88 energy savings (24 + 16*4)

Lastly, here is a comparison of the number of runs and time required to gain this experience:

Assumption: 6 second Brutal farmer, 90 second Nightmare farmer. Your times will vary – e.g. will be significantly lower for Ithos, higher for Miscreated Monster.

Who can farm Nightmare campaign?

Ithos is hands down the best Nightmare farmer. He can farm it faster than anyone else due to 2 hard hitting AOEs, built-in extra turn, and huge multipliers. He des not need lifesteal gear. I have also seen Ignatius, Big Un, Sir Nicholas, Trunda, and Miscreated Monster farm it, but they take longer and most require lifesteal (around 1.5-2.5 minutes). There are probably a few more who could do it. Below is my Lifesteal Trunda I used for this test (booked, masteried. Books probably not mandatory).

TL;DR:

Is it worth farming Nightmare Campaign? Yes in terms of energy savings, for 2*s and higher. You will save 88 energy per each 4* chicken you make. It’s not a lot, but it will add up to a very large number, since food leveling is such a core part of the game. Another subtle advantage of NM campaign include taking less number of runs (i.e. you can get more out of your autobattles to automatically swap food). The main disadvantages are the high gear and champion requirements and time spent.
